Almeda Sims Sludge Processing Facility

Project Description:

The Almeda Sims Sludge Process Facility Improvements project consisted of improvements to the existing facilities and construction of new facilities at the existing Almeda Sims Wastewater Plant and Sludge Processing Facility. The total cost of construction, equipment and testing was approximately $40 million.

A new site adjacent to the existing facility was acquired by the City of Houston for a new Sludge Processing Facility. The Scope of Work for the new facilities included the preparation of the new site, construction of a two-section Sludge Processing Building with associated equipment, a Truck Load-Out Building with two concrete silos, installation of a new Thickened Waste Activated Sludge (TWAS) Pump Station, and installation of a new Non Potable Water (NPW) Pump Station. The sludge drying equipment and its associated components were purchased separately by the City and furnished to the contractor for installation. The site was made ready for the new improvements with the demolition of existing structures, grading of the site, installation of new yard piping and electrical utility services, and installation of a parking lot, driveways, sidewalks, and landscaping.

The Sludge Processing Building incorporates features such as 2 dryer units, six belt filter presses, a polymer feed system, sludge feed system, sludge day tanks with aeration system, cake conveyance system, water booster system, and control rooms and office space for the operators.
